For satnav purposes use the address SK17 6GJ (Buxton, Sandy Lane), which is the sailing club, sited at a convenient mid-point between the Errwood Reservoir and the Fernilee Reservoir. Access easiest from the A5004 (Long Hill) road which connects Buxton and Whaley Bridge. The Goyt Valley is signposted off the A5004. That route takes you down Goyt's Lane.

There is one public convenience in the Goyt Valley. That is at the Derbyshire Bridge car park (Car Park No: 3). Open 09.00 to 17.00 it operates on a solenoid (push button) lock. Car Park No: 3 is only one mile from the Cat and Fiddle.

The area is busier at weekends, especially so on bank holidays when I keep well away. Delightful place to visit but in winter dress accordingly. Especially over 400 metres elevation, when the Goyt Valley is completely transformed. 2WD cars and vans routinely become trapped in that lobster pot, as all three roads quickly ice over. I always use crampons in snow or ice on my most challenging walking routes. 4WD vehicles have no problems in my experience except in deep snow when it is unlikely anyone will be able to reach the Goyt Valley anyway. It is not unusual for the A537 (Cat and Fiddle road) to be closed to all traffic in snow.

For information on the history of the Goyt Valley see the links section on this website.
