The Old Steam Pond (Pond No:1) - MAIN

Also known locally as 'The Old Steam Pond' which harks back to the days of the old railway, when this pond served to replenish water on the steam engine. I probably have hundreds of images of this pond in my archive. This pond could tell a few stories. Many I know about, most I do not.

Drought conditions ? See also Errwood Reservoir of the same date. Last time the water level dropped (significantly) was in 2018 but this water loss seems Significant. I have been informed since that a leak was reported, though late 2023 the level seems to be holding. That said as others like me report, it has been the grimest year in living memory. Cold and wet contrary to allegations of hotest year on record.

On 27.07.2022 an ancient Ford Granada was dragged out. Roll mouse pointer over above image to see the Granada. Tap the image on a smart phone. There still remains an old bathroom suite, steel hawsers and railings on the far side. Some presumably fly tipping before access was gated. That box in the foreground is an old safe which had been in the water for 50 years to my certain knowledge. I shifted ten bags of bottles and other rubbish while it was empty. Others have done the same.
