Frogs are to be seen anywhere and everywhere in the Goyt Valley, along with Toads. They inhabit ponds and ditches at all elevations, as confirmed by Frog spawn even if the adult is not always present. They congregate in large numbers in spring to mate and can be heard from a distance. I arrived once at The old steam Pond (Pond Number One) and it appeared that thick black oil had been discharged into the water because it was clinging to the margins olong the whole perimeter. It transpired the 'oil' was entirely very dense mats of spawn.

First frog spawn on 2023 seen: February 23rd. 2023

Hiding in my Hedgehog House this steamy hot June day. There were a few slugs earlier but they may have met a grizzly end.

Ordinarily I have had a giant frog living in that house for months. It vanishes then suddenly reappears after many days missing.
