Goytsclough Quarry, Stakeside to Stile at V - MAIN 3

On the muddy climb but navigable as the fence is down following forestry works: February 20th. 2023

The solid footbridge leading to the main climb: February 20th. 2023

Continuing the journey: February 20th. 2023

A very awkward stile for anyone with physical difficulties. No need for a stile here. That said the right hand part can be dismantled if you study it carefully, by sliding planks: February 20th. 2023

This section will present problems to anyone with physical difficulties as the often deep peat bog is almost impossible to avoid. Need to be nimble by treading tussocks. This continues for some distance: February 20th. 2023

The quagmire ends at the gate, where the alternate yellow dot route starts on maps 11 and 12 (see routes). After this area the climb to the top starts: February 20th. 2023

Looking back down the trail towards the last gate: February 20th. 2023

The steepish climb to the top is along an often difficult trail littered with loose pebbles, like walking on cricket balls and potentially hazardous to anyone with physical difficulties. It is not advised walking down this route in the snow as hazards are hidden under the snow and can lead to tripping or slipping: February 20th. 2023

Along with the cricket ball pebbles I note the drystone walls on this route all seem weathered by water (both sides of the wall), whereas other walls elsewhere have sharp edged slabs: February 20th. 2023

Looking back down the trail: February 20th. 2023
