I find this baffling. There are Jelly Fungi that can look like this, in a variety of colours, but all those I have discovered online are invariably on timber. This was found at a gateway on a route I regularly patrol (Route 6 anti-clockwise). This blob appears to be made up of many smaller regular size blobs (sweetcorn size). There were a number of different size patches of this gelatinous mass, all in one small area. On a dry stone wall, not timber. The blobs appear to be sat on lichen but that may be a coincidence. I was drawn to the spot by entrails on an adjacent large diameter wooden gate post. A spot where a Raptor has safely perched having lunch (you can see for miles in any direction). This is a day when I have seen an amazing quantity of sparkling white fresh lichens everywhere. I will check the condition when I return soon which will have to be a week at least unfortunately at the moment as my motor is having planned maintenance. |

Addendum 24.410.2024: Returned and jelly still intact. Acting on a personal hunch I later researched ‘Buzzard jelly regurgitation’ in google and got a result. The only consistent feature of that jelly is that it was scattered in an inconsistent manner around but close to a large diameter wooden post where entrails from a Raptor’s lunch was also scattered and smeared. No shortage of Buzzards thereabouts. The jelly is on the adjacent drystone wall, timber and grass. That is the gate leading to Wildmoorstone Bridge, where a Raptor can sit in safety with a good 360 degree view for miles. |
